The sun is shining, warmth is in the air! We all know what that means; summertime is here! For many youth ministers across the country, that means camp is just around the corner. I am in full camp mode getting every detail locked in and ready to go for a fun week with high schoolers this July. The camp theme this summer is “You Be the Judge”. I will be challenging the campers to make good Godly choices in their lives. We will look at different characters throughout the Bible, seeing the difficult choices they were face with and what they choose to do.
Teenagers are faced with tough choices every single day. They are challenged from every side and are forced to make difficult decisions. During camp, they will be challenged to lean on God and let His word lay the groundwork that helps them form their decisions. That being said, teenagers are not the only ones who are faced with tough choices, we all face them. What are we going to rely on when the time comes? Will we listen to the world, science, social media, political and cultural trends? Or will we dig into God’s word and what it says we should base our choices on: truth, justice, and love?
Before we know it, we will blink and summer will be over. We need to remember to slow down and take time to crack open our Bibles and meet the Lord in prayer. If we don’t, we just might find ourselves making choices based on the world’s ideals instead of the truth that resides in God’s word.
